A Tribute to the late Candice Goodwin, editor of the Furzedown website until February 2008

With her short, red hair and strong sense of colour, and often out and
about on her bike, Candice was a distinctive local character. Unsung
here, she was responsible for the redesign and subsequent updating of
the Furzedown website.
Candice lived in Furzedown for the last 17 years and was keen to
support local events, such as the Furzedown Festival. Her children,
Max and Esther, both grew up, attended Graveney and still live here in
the family home with their father, Ron.
Keen to support the local shops when possible, Candice also shared a local
allotment with Festival organiser Caroline Holden, where she enjoyed
an oasis of calm from her busy days as a teacher. It was there that
Candice grew the huge pumpkins that were enjoyed by visiting Halloween
ghouls in recent years.
A few years ago, the Furzedown website was in need of a facelift. With
typical determination, Candice assumed responsibility for implementing
the makeover and recruited the skills of Simon, a local artist, for
the design. The new look was distinctive and gave the Furzedown site a
strong identity, and revitalised interest in it as a focus for local
information.
One of the features of the new design was the gallery of pictures and
Candice took great care and pleasure from selecting a variety of
images to reflect the population and events that represent Furzedown.
Candice died in February from cancer and is greatly missed by her many
friends and family.
