FURZEDOWN COMMUNITY NETWORK Minutes of the Meeting held on 11 MARCH 2001 Present - Tim Kahn, Anna Lubelska, John Hayns, Norman Barr, Shirley Sim, Graham Owen, Ellis Cory, Diana Berry, Helen Long and John Farebrother Apologies - Vijay Bhuchar 1. Matters arising 1.1 Website - minutes, constitution and Festival notice are on the Furzedown website. Careline health information, photos and the newsletter and survey form to go on. 1.2 Parking and hostel - nothing new to report. 1.3 Pancake race - did not take place as planned due to rain and George, who was going to organise it, going abroad. 2. Committee membership Anna reported that Mark and Maria White had resigned from the committee. This was accepted by those present with regret and the committee asked that the minutes record thanks to the White family for their support and enthusiasm in getting the FCN going. Helen Long joined the committee. 3. Bank account Norman Barr reported that he had managed to get an application form from Barclays bank after some difficulties and that this had now been filled in and the FCN account would be open soon. It was agreed that organisers of FCN events would need to prepare budgets for the events and the budgets would need to be agreed in advance by the committee. 4. Information exchange 4.1 Local police - Anna has made contact with local police and links will be developed between the FCN and the local police initiatives such as the Furzedown Ward Working Group which is organised by PC Bob Davies (8247 8010). 4.2 Street robberies - Anna confirmed that the event on street robberies planned for Graveney school on 28 March was just for parents, students and staff at Graveney. 4.3 Useful telephone numbers - Reporting graffiti 8871 7049 and flytipping 8871 6378. 4.4 Café -Anna reported that Claire Nathan the manager of the Furzedown Sports area and centre on Chillerton Road has the keys to the café on the recreation ground and says that the building is in a bad state of repair. 4.5 Bowling green - the bowling greens are under threat and Graham Owen and Julia Feast from Chillerton Road are investigating. A public meeting may be needed. 4.6 Phone mast - The local paper has published a letter referring to the phone mast to be placed on Tooting Bec Common. A public meeting has been arranged. 4.7 Road safety - there was a discussion about crossings and speeding on Southcroft, Moyser and Thrale Roads. 5. Consultation Graham passed round a final draft of the FCN newsletter/survey. 1,500 copies will be made, possibly through Graveney School. The newsletters will be delivered by FCN members to an area around Moyser Road. 6. Barn Dance Vijay reported that arrangements are progressing for the Barn Dance which will be at Seely Hall on Saturday 12 May 7-10.30. It was agreed to sell the tickets at £5 per head for adults. People to bring their own drinks. We would have some snacks available. Fancy dress optional. The organising subgroup are now Vijay, Helen and Shirley. Others to help by selling tickets and helping on the night. 7. Furzedown Festival Anna gave out copies of the notes from the Festival team meeting. The Festival will be from Saturday 14 July to Sunday 22 July. Events will include: a procession to launch the Festival, a funday, a 'music in the park' concert, local history and art exhibitions, a joint worship service, a talent contest and a community picnic.
