FURZEDOWN COMMUNITY NETWORK Minutes of the Meeting held on 8 APRIL 2001 Present - Anna Lubelska (chair), Vijay Bhuchar, John Hayns, Norman Barr, Graham Owen and Ellis Cory Apologies - Shirley Sim, Diana Berry, Helen Long and Tim Kahn 1. Committee matters No news from George Nyamie and Chrissy Billings. Vijay to contact them to get them back onboard for the next meeting. Anna to produce up to date committee list. It was agreed to put the officers contact details (except for Vijay's phone no) on the website and to create an email mailing list for the committee. 2. Matters arising from the minutes of the last committee meeting 2.1 Website - John Hayns will add Barn Dance and Festival information to the FCN website and the map of doctors surgeries etc. The survey form is on the website and two people have filled it in online. We will be setting up a List Bot. Could make a link to upmystreet.com. Anna thanked John on behalf of the committee for his ongoing work on the website. 2.2 Bank account - Norman Barr reported that the FCN bank account has now been opened and we have our first cheque book and paying in book. Our balance is £119.41. There will be various receipts and payments associated with FCN activities - mainly the Barn Dance and newsletter/survey at this stage. 2.3 Liaison with local police - Anna Lubelska reported that the local Home Beat policeman, PC Bob Davies, is keen to maintain links with FCN. Anna will be asking him to help at the Furzedown Festival. 2.4 Bowling green - Graham Owen reported that he has spoken to Julia Feast who is also concerned about the possibility that the Council may be planning to sell off one of the bowling greens in Furzedown Park. There is some information about this issue on the Wandsworth Council website under the 'parks' section. The Council is undertaking a wide review of all the parks in the borough. There will be a questionnaire. Ellis Cory reported that two councillors have been corresponding on this issue in the local Guardian. 2.5 Mobile phone masts - Anna suggested that the committee keep in touch with John Valentine who is campaign against phone masts in the Furzedown area. It was agreed that Anna should contact him and offer to publicise his campaign on the FCN website. Ellis to get a contact for the bowling club.
3.1 What's happened so far - Graham Owen reported that about 1,300 copies of FCN's first newsletter/survey have been distributed to an area around Moyser Road. About 20 survey responses have been received. Graham will be analysing the findings of the survey in due course. 3.2 Second wave - Graham will organise the production and distribution of more leaflets in the Chillerton area and the other side of Welham Road. 3.3 Distribution rounds - Graham to work these out for future leafletting. 3.4 Membership fees - £75 membership fees have been collected so far. Vijay will send a standard letter of thanks. Vijay will organise the design and production of credit card size membership cards. 3.5 Membership bulletins - it was agreed to produce special bulletins for members. 3.6 Noticeboards - It was agreed to find shops that would be willing to put up FCN posters and information around the area. Anna and Ellis to identify shops, make the requests/agreements and report back. 3.7 Membership desk - It was agreed to have a members desk at FCN events such as the Barn Dance. 3.8 Membership stall - Graham and Anna to organise weekend membership stall on Moyser road. 4. Barn dance : 7-10.30pm on Saturday 12 May at Seely Hall. 4.1 Tickets - all tickets £5. Vijay reported that the tickets had arrived late but had now been distributed to committee members for sale. The aim is to sell as many as possible as soon as possible! 4.2 Help at the event - we will need people to help at the event . Some snacks will be free and some will be for sale. There will be a raffle. We will need to decorate the tables. 5. Furzedown Festival Anna talked about the plans for the Festival and gave out copies of the notes of the last Festival Team meeting. The Festival will be from Saturday 14 July to Sunday 22 July. Anyone wishing to have a stall at the funday on Saturday 14 July should contact Claire Nathan the manager of the Furzedown Sports area who is organising the funday - tel. 8767 6542. It was suggested that the Festival team could look for sponsorship for individual events such as the talent contest and the photo competition. The next Festival team meeting is at 8 on Tuesday 1 May at 15 Clairview Road. 6. Next newsletter Anna reported that Aman Khaliqdina of Portland Green Grocers shop on the corner of Moyser and Ribblesdale has asked about advertising in the next newsletter. It was agreed that the Festival publicity and the next newsletter should be rolled into one. This would give more scope for selling adverts to local businesses. This newsletter to be produced and distributed well in advance of the Festival.
